Senior Asset Manager

Main Purpose

The Engineer - Asset Manager is responsible for day-to-day technical and commercial oversight of multiple operational PV and BESS assets.

Responsibilities include performance monitoring, contract management, compliance, reporting, stakeholder coordination, and optimisation of asset performance. The role requires strong analytical capability, engineering understanding, commercial awareness, and excellent communication skills.

Key activities and responsibilities

  • Monitor PV and BESS plant performance using SCADA and analytics systems and take corrective action or make recommendations for improvement;
  • Monitor corrective and preventive maintenance activities from the O&M contractor and take corrective action or make recommendations for improvement;
  • Review daily, weekly, and monthly reports from the O&M contractor to ensure accuracy and to identify corrective action required and ensure corrective action is implemented.
  • Produce power production forecasts and liaise with trading team for day ahead market sales;
  • Visiting sites on a regular basis
  • Interact with Engineering, Finance and Operations and Trading team to get support as needed.
  • Obtain root cause analyses (RCA) from the O&M contractor for performance deviations or plant failures. Liaise with engineering team to resolve.
  • Coordinate with O&M providers, utilities, contractors, and SCA internal teams
  • Ensure compliance with HSE, ESG, grid codes, O&M contract, PPA obligations, and regulatory requirements; Liaise with Operations, Legal, Trading, E&S manager and commercial manager to confirm compliance.
  • Manage insurance claims, warranty processes, and lifecycle planning (with support from commercial asset management)
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports
  • Support preparation of commercial performance, revenue reporting, budgeting, and cost optimization with commercial asset manager
  • Ensure spare parts are available, maintained and replaced as per the O&M contract
  • Ensure a comprehensive asset register is in place and accurately maintained for each site

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Renewable Energy Engineering (or related)
  • 3-5 years’ experience in utility-scale solar PV asset management (BESS experience preferred)
  • Strong understanding of PV systems, inverters, substations, and energy storage systems
  • Good technical competency with SCADA, monitoring tools, and data analytics
  • In depth knowledge of PPAs, EPC/O&M contracts, and project finance structures

Desirable skills/experience

  • Data analysis and reporting skills (Excel, Python, Power BI)
  • Understanding of African energy markets and regulatory frameworks
  • Experience with engineering documentation and technical reviews
  • Experience with SCADA platforms and identification of issues based on data displayed.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills
