From a pioneering solar company to international developer
With its origins in 1998, Solarcentury has been around since the early days of the solar industry. We've been part of the rapid evolution that has made solar photovoltaic the mainstream energy source that it is today.
In sub-Saharan Africa, Solarcentury Africa is a market leader in the development of solar PV and storage projects using smart energy technology and controls.
We have a total of 980 MW of renewable energy projects under active development with exclusive agreements, and an additional 4 GW of solar projects in the pipeline.
We follow an integrated model, which means we not only design and build solar projects, but also own and operate them. Just as importantly, we handle the critical financial and commercial aspects—from securing equity and debt to managing PPAs or BOOT agreements, along with full energy management.
Solarcentury Africa has been granted full, unconditional membership as a Market Participant in the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP). This milestone allows us to trade electricity from our merchant plants currently under development within the SAPP interconnected power system.
