Solarcentury hits an important milestone in developing one of Europe’s largest solar farms
The Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition has granted an Environmental Impact Declaration to Solarcentury’s Talayuela solar farm in an important step towards the site’s development. The 300MWp solar farm in the region of Extremadura will be one of Europe’s largest to date.
Neil Perry, Chief Financial Officer for Solarcentury, said: “We are delighted with the progress we have made on this important project and grateful for the cooperation and support of our local partners together with both local and central authorities.”
“Solarcentury looks forward to reaching ready to build status in the coming months and to the commercial operation of the plant early in 2020,” he said.
The Talayuela solar farm will generate enough electricity to power 200,000 homes – enough to house more than 10 per cent of Extremadura’s total population. The project will create more than 100 local jobs during the construction phase.
Solarcentury signed a memorandum of understanding with Extremadura’s Department of Economy and Infrastructure to further develop the site in December 2017.
