Solarcentury to build 17.5MWp site in Hertfordshire
Solarcentury has agreed to build and maintain a 17.5MW solar farm near Royston in Hertfordshire for Bluefield Solar Income Fund (BSIF). Hoback Solar Farm will be the largest project built by Solarcentury to date and is the fifth time the company has attracted investment from BSIF.
The solar farm will generate enough solar electricity to power 5,000 homes and save 9,500 tonnes of CO2 every year. Connected during the autumn 2014, the solar farm will receive 1.4 ROCs.
Frans van den Heuvel, CEO at Solarcentury commented, “Building a fifth solar farm for Bluefield, including four we have developed ourselves, is a clear demonstration that large-scale solar continues to make financial sense. The appetite for investment in this type of solar generation asset remains extremely high given the stable returns available. Investors see the benefits in long-term, low risk assets such as large-scale solar farms and we expect this to continue, especially as the cost of developing these sites continues to fall.”
In addition to acquiring large scale sites such as Hoback Solar Farm, and building sites as an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor, Solarcentury has also developed over 118MW of its own solar projects to date and remains confident about the future of large scale solar in the UK.
