JinkoSolar selects Solarcentury to develop two solar projects in first round of Mexico auction

Solarcentury to develop ground mounted solar in two locations in Mexico

In the first round of the energy auction in Mexico’s new energy market, JinkoSolar and Solarcentury have partnered in order to develop 170MW AC of ground mount solar projects. The Energy Division of JinkoSolar will act as the investor and owner of the two solar projects and Solarcentury will develop both sites.

The auction involved 227 offers and 69 bidders, with just 17 projects awarded, two of which have been won by JinkoSolar and Solarcentury. The sites to be developed are Viborillas (100MW AC) located in Jalisco state and Cuncunul (70MW AC) located in the Yucatan state.

Asier Aya, Managing Director of the Energy Business for Latin America commented, “Solarcentury has considerable experience of developing and delivering large-scale projects around the world, so the company was an ideal partner for us. As project developer for both these sites, we can benefit from Solarcentury’s project management and technical experience, to ensure the sites are delivered on time and budget. It is clear that Solarcentury is becoming a key player in the Latin American solar market.”

The Mexico office, established in Feb 2014, is supported by the London HQ; Solarcentury has almost twenty years’ experience in the solar industry.

Peter Sermon, CSO at Solarcentury commented, “Partnering with JinkoSolar for these sizeable projects is a fantastic win for our Latin American team, who worked around the clock to ensure that we could offer the most competitive and reliable project development opportunity to JinkoSolar. These project wins continue our growing momentum in the Latin American solar market, following the large-scale ground mount project we officially opened in Panama in February and our growing pipeline of opportunities in Chile helped by our balance sheet and strong cash position which make us an attractive partner.”

Solarcentury is continuing development of both sites with JinkoSolar in line with the bids submitted for both sites in the energy auction.
